I make photographs for architects, landscape architects, interior designers, contractors, manufacturers, real estate agents, and property developers. Talent, top-grade camera and lighting equipment, and a real passion for the built environment — combined to produce images that stay valuable to your firm long after the punch list closes.

Your design deserves to be shared. All the hard work, creative energy, dedication to your customers, care, detail, and love that you put into every project has great value to people. Design enthusiasts and potential clients want to see and appreciate your work. Most of them will never stand inside it — but they can experience it through photographs.

That's the underlying problem photography solves. You build one thing, in one place, that almost nobody will ever visit. Photographs are the only version of the project that scales.

They also do three specific jobs:

They win the next commission. Your portfolio is your pitch. Firms get shortlisted off images before anyone reads a word of the proposal. Good work photographed badly reads as ordinary work — and closes the door before the conversation starts.

They get the project published. Magazines, awards juries, and design editors have real technical standards: resolution, corrected verticals, windows that hold detail. A great project shouldn't lose recognition it earned because of the photography.

They preserve the design intent. A building is light, sequence, proportion, and material. Snapshots flatten all of it. My goal is to communicate the best qualities in a project — to capture space, lighting, and color, and convey an emotional sense of place — so that years of design thinking don't get reduced to "nice house."

Background

I was born in Minneapolis and built this business in California before moving to Baltimore. A love of art led me to San Francisco State University, where I earned a B.A. in Photography, and I began my professional career assisting on commercial and architectural shoots. Over more than a decade I've photographed fine art, portraits, landscape, dance performance, and film stills alongside architecture. A sense for design and a fascination with the built environment is why I chose to specialize.

In 2016 The Cultural Landscape Foundation commissioned me as one of the photographers documenting the work of Lawrence Halprin for The Landscape Architecture of Lawrence Halprin, the centennial exhibition that opened at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC and traveled to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Arkansas. I've also photographed Joseph Esherick's 1963 Esherick House, and my work spans workplace and coworking interiors, manufacturing facilities, engineered building materials, trade show environments, and high-end residential. Published in the San Francisco Chronicle, SF Weekly, Nautilus Magazine, Diablo Magazine, and on countless websites. Named Best of Houzz for Service in 2016 and 2019.

I'm also an accomplished microscopist, producing images for scientific studies published in peer-reviewed journals including Nature and Science — the same attention to light and structure, at a rather different scale.

Today I photograph for architects and designers across Baltimore, Washington DC, and the greater mid-Atlantic region.
